Nature of Course
This Bachelor of Education Honours Degree programme consists of 120 credits. (60 Credits are
exempted for diploma holders of National Colleges of Education)
This course is part-time and conducted on weekends and school holidays, and also educational
activities through online and face-to-face sessions will be conducted through regional learning
centers.
The course will be conducted in English medium for teachers appointed to teach English in schools
Eligibility to Apply
Holding a National Diploma in Teaching (English course) from the National Colleges of
Education as well as having passed the G.C.E. (A/L) examination.
Having a permanent appointment and currently serving in any of the Sri Lanka Teacher
Service, Sri Lanka Principal Service, Sri Lanka Teacher Advisor Service, Sri Lanka
Education Administration Service and Sri Lanka Teacher Educator Service by 2024.12.10
Selection of Candidates
Candidates will be selected for the degree programme based on an interview. The period of service
will be given priority.
1st Step of Term 3 of Sinhala, Tamil Schools ends on 22nd of November 2024 and Term 03 - Step 02 Starts on January 02 and ENDS on 24th of January 2025. 2025 Academic Year starts on 27th January 2025

Educational Qualification.
GCE (A/L) Examination. Should have passed the GCE (A/L)
Examination with three (03) Simple Passes and obtained 30% marks for the
Common General Test, in one (01) sitting and not more than three (03) attempts
And
Should have passed eight (08) subjects (Including science) with five (5)
Credit (C) passes in one sitting and not more than two attempts and obtained Credit
passes for English Language, Mathematics and Sinhala/Tamil Language in not more
than three attempts at the GCE (O/L) examination or the candidates who have
obtained a simple pass for English at the GCE (O/L) will be considered if they have
obtained a Credit pass for English subject at the GCE (A/L) examination or possess
any diploma/degree in English medium NVQ Level - 4 or above offered by a
university/institute recognized by University Grant Commission. (NVQ certificate
should be submitted)
Or An equivalent result obtained at an internationally recognized examination
(Pearson Edexcel, GCSE, GCE, and Cambridge or any other) as recognized by the
Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka as equivalents to the GCE (O/L) and the
GCE (A/L) examinations in Sri Lanka (Including compulsory subjects above).
3 Other Qualifications. Sports, Leaderships and other achievements,
International and National levels and Proficiency of in other languages (other than Sinhala
and English) are considered as added qualification.
