How to become an External Pharmacist



New regulations for the External Pharmacist Apprentice Course have been issued by Ceylon Medical College Council.

These new regulations are effective from April 01, 2023

Qualifications
  • Age Over 18
  • Passed GCE O/L
  • Passed in Chemistry and another two subjects from Biology, Zoology, Physics, Agriculture, Applied Mathematics, Combined Mathematics, Pure Mathematics.

Paper Structure is revised

Written Examination (3 hours) 
Written papers 
Part I – MCQ 50 Questions 50% Marks 
Part II – Essay 5 Questions 50% Marks 

Candidates with a score 40% and above in the written papers shall be called for practical and viva voce tests. 

Practical Component (2 hours) 
Shall be in the form of an Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE) with about 40 items and 2 rest stations. 

Viva Voce Component Evaluation of apprentice training records. Prefabricated dosage forms, cosmetics, and devices. 

Questions pertaining to all aspects of retail pharmacy practice and syllabus including pharmacology, regulatory affairs, patient care and counseling.

Fees are Revised

1. Examination fee Rs.15,000/-
2. Efficiency Certificate fee Rs. 5000/-
3. Transcript fee Rs. 10,000/-
4. Re-correction fee Rs. 3,000/-
5. Regulations and syllabus booklet Apprentice training record book -            2000
